About Rachael Lord

I grew up in

Sleepy Bundeena. I was a regular “wharf rat” swimming at the Bundeena wharf every day after school. I grew up surrounded by the sea, nature & interesting, arty characters. From Bundeena I learnt what it feels like to be part of a community, where just walking down the street can turn into a social event. I moved to Cronulla after high school because I always missed that last 7pm ferry home.

I’ve worked for

My mum owned the local video store in Bundeena so we ran that business as a family. Working at Beach & Bay Realty is my first “real job” and I’ve been with the team for 3 years now. I initially started as a receptionist however as we’ve embraced technology over the years my role has expanded to all forms of online marketing and social media including running the ‘I Love Cronulla’ page.
I also volunteer for a youth charity formed by a friend, Australian Youth Against Cancer. I help coordinate fundraising & events such as The Sutherland 2 Surf AYAC running team.

Crazy stuff I’ve done

To have fun I

I surround myself with friends & food, whether we go out for dinner or host our own parties. I read a lot of books, browse blogs and watch youtube clips far too much.
I go to a music gig at least once a week. Often I’ll just pick someone I haven’t heard and hope for the best.
I love to take photos, walk anywhere near the sea and nothing beats seeing the world with a backpack and an open mind.

I love Cronulla because

I can go for beach swims after work and walk on The Esplanade. Cronulla inspires an active lifestyle, from the surfers & runners to the little old lady who wears the matching jumpsuit & walks the strip every day. There’s a sense of belonging here similar to Bundeena and it’s nice to wander through Cronulla Mall and bump into new and old friends and wave to the local business owners.

What are your favourite places in Cronulla?

Guiding philosophy

We are all in this together. Travelling makes the world seem smaller and you begin to realise that no matter where you are - people are fundamentally the same. We may look different, practice different customs and eat different food but we all feel love, fear and loss equally.
