Australian Youth Against Cancer – Spotlight On The Shire

In 2009, Caringbah youth Chris Boyd was diagnosed with cancer. He had a rare type of malignant tumour the size of a table tennis ball in his sinus cavity. Fortunately, he was given high chances of a full recovery and less than a year later he is now back to his former self.

With new life comes new opportunities, and now Chris has decided to help others and founded Australian Youth Against Cancer – a charity aimed to support youth cancer sufferers and survivors. Chris identified a gap in the support system whilst he was enduring his treatment. There were children’s charities, women’s charities and various other institutions but none were tailored to the youth bracket.

Chris and his mate Ian Bacon, are gearing up to paddle the entire length of the Murray River. This will be their inaugural fundraising event, with more events planned throughout the year.  They were recently featured in the Sutherland Shire Leader, to read the full article see here.

Chris is also organising a group to run in the Sutherland to Surf. If you’re registered to run, or plan on running, contact AYAC through their website or visit this event page to see how you can be a part and help AYAC raise awareness. Three Beach & Bay Realty staff members have already signed up to run for AYAC. Now it’s time to start training….

Its so nice to someone fresh and happy after going through such physical conditions. I have lost one of my friends this month. He had blood cancer.
I appreciate the concern about helping others.

  2. […] Australian Youth Against Cancer (AYAC), the charity founded by Caringbah resident Chris Boyd, has made the semi finals of the Young Social Pioneers competition. I wasn’t entirely sure what this was either, but it is certainly admirable to say the least. We blogged about AYAC here. […]

Very very sorry to here that Tomas. Far too many people know someone personally who has had cancer.

You will be happy to know Chris is in the semi finals for Australian Young Social Pioneers!
