It’s here again, the perfect opportunity to throw out what you don’t need and save on skip bin fees! Sutherland Shire’s Council Clean Up kicks off in Cronulla at 5am Monday 30th April.

Things to remember:

• Council asks that you DO NOT place items under trees or power lines or in gutters
• Place clean up material on the outer edge of the footpath
• Clean up starts at 5am
• Council does not pick up chemicals, building materials or thorny branches or bushes
• Council will not pick up items that can not be handled safely by 2 average size people

Due to safety and other reasons not all materials are able to be collected, but these CAN be collected:

Council asks that your materials not be placed out before Saturday 28th April, this is not just because your neighbours don’t like having to look at your discarded treasures on the street for weeks beforehand but because it decreases the chances of bad weather blowing furniture onto the street, hitting cars, people or pets!

As much as we all love a nice warm bath, they require almost twice as much water as a shower, so possibly limiting this luxury to maybe only fortnightly would do the trick! Anzac Day Miranda 2011

Anzac Day is rightfully known as one of Australia’s most important national occasions marking the anniversary of the first major military action found by Australian and New Zealand forces during the first World War.

Today we recognise the 25th of April as a day of national remembrance through two forms:

• Commemorative services are held at dawn across the nation to represent the time of the original landing. Later in the day, ex-servicemen and women meet to take part in marches through the major cities and in many smaller centres
• Commemorative ceremonies are more formal occasions held at war memorials around the country for Australians to reflect on the many different meanings of war

Apple has transformed the world of technology firstly with the iPod, followed by the iPhone, iPad and who knows what is install for us next! Now the apps to go with this technology are assisting us with so many of our day to day activities. If I’m on the train I’m relying on TripView to check the train timetables and if I’m driving I’ll check RTA Live Traffic before I leave my driveway to make sure I won’t be sitting in traffic for hours! Beach & Bay loves the addictive apps like Words with Friends, Sudoku, Instagram or Draw Something,  but we also love finding apps that focus on real estate or related issues (see our blog on our mobile-friendly property websites).

In the past we’ve investigated the MagicPlan app, essential for renovating and decorating so today we’ve targeted the CommBank Property Guide and the Valuables Vault apps after trying them out ourselves. Not only are these two apps fairly simple to use, they are super useful and best of all, they’re free!

Valuables Vault by Insurance Group Australia (IAG)

The NRMA Insurance Valuables Vault helps you catalogue all your valuables electronically so if they ever get lost or stolen you’ll have the information stored on your iPhone or iPad ready to help you make a claim.

But how?! Simple! Take photos of your belongings, store information like where you bought it from, receipt details, serial numbers and more, categorise your items by type or ownership and in the worst case scenerio that you lose or break your iPhone, you can even email yourself a copy of your saved data. Sounds easy? That’s because it is!
