Tuesday saw the 2012 NMD Shark Island Challenge run and won by Mitch Rawlings from QLD.

Twenty of the world’s best bodyboarders competed for the title. It was held in wild 2 metre plus ESE swell with SE wind gusts and rain making for a testing days surfing.

Tuesday morning saw totally different conditions, with still a solid 1 to 2 meter SE swell fanned by north west winds, creating a perfect days surfing. A  thick fog blew in around 7.30am.

My bunch of grommets we coach had a few others to contend with. Four humpback whales played off the point 30 to 40 meters from the surfers. We also had a seal cruising the patch near the jump off spot to get out to the point. Mother nature really turned it on and I just had to share!!!

Today and Friday will have similar conditions to Wednesday but with a diminishing swell. I expect ideal conditions to be had both mornings until the on shore comes up late morning.

Saturday will see 1 metre surf and an increase in swell size from the south as the day progresses. Sunday will be a bit bigger and early next week the swell should peak around 2 metres plus.

Great waves to be had for the next week. So get out there and get into it!!!

South Cronulla

Welcome to the 3rd Friday the 13th this year, bringing small but still nice conditions!

There is a 1’ to 2’ swell running out of the east and these conditions will prevail for the next week. The wind is offshore from the NW and the water temperature is around 18 degrees.

In these small but pristine conditions it’s ideal to pull out the Mal or big old soft board for some fun. Remember your wetsuit!!!

Today has been a dream for surfers with light offshore winds fanning a 4 to 5 foot east swell, so if you can get out for an afternoon surf do it!

The weekend looks like turning nasty on Saturday but Sunday will see some improvement. Conditions should improve into next week with a 3’ to 4‘ swell carry through with better weather forecast!

Shark Island

Well a great day today and the weekend is looking good as well. Water temp is still around 20 degrees.

The swell is around 1 metre plus coming out of the south east there is no wind showing at the moment but we should get light onshore after 1pm.

Saturday morning is looking good with similar conditions the swell will taper off into Sunday with a change moving in Monday or Tuesday and a rising swell predicted to be 4 meters by Wednesday – Thursday.

So enjoy your weekend before next week’s ugly weather with larger swells moves in!

Paddle boarding conditions

The surf doesn’t get much flatter than whats been showing at the moment!

There is good news it’s got to go up from here!

The swell is from the north and Cronulla usually misses these swells but there was a little wave at the southern end  showing out the point and Sandshoes on the higher tide.

These conditions should continue until Sunday where the longer range forecast is predicting a new south swell to 1 metre running into next week.

But the water is 21 degrees at the moment and the wind is offshore so it not bad for a swim, until the new swell kicks in.
