Mundo Tapas Bar – Rydges Cronulla

by Kylie Emans on August 24, 2010

I don’t go out in Cronulla too often. I find Northies to be an awkward place and I refuse to venture to Fusion with any remote hint of sobriety. Spargo’s has been shut down (not that it was any good) and 2230 is small and not a great scene for a mid 20yr old guy.

But then, only a few months ago now, Rydges Cronulla unveiled their refurbished bar and restaurant area dubbed ‘Mundo Tapas Bar’. A few of my friends managed to pick up bar work there and before long I was a regular patron, often spending 2 nights of my weekend enjoying drinks with friends. Suddenly, I was out in Cronulla on the weekends and thoroughly enjoying myself. I was even making the walk to Fusion on occasion!

Over the next few months I watched Mundo grow in popularity, as more and more people began crowding my watering hole. I can see why though. Mundo Tapas Bar fills a big gap in the Cronulla nightlife. With a big balcony area as well as plenty of lounges and sitting areas indoors, Mundo is the lounge bar that 2230 tried to be and so much more. The music is perfect, and played at an agreeable level allowing for conversation – not shouting. The cocktails are great, and the friendly staff are more than willing to accommodate any experimental concoction you throw at them.

The food is delicious, but perhaps slightly over-priced. It is just a Tapas bar though, so if you enjoy some finger food with your drinks you will be more than happy with what is on offer. Personally, I don’t go for the food (they have Asahi on tap). If you do happen to venture down to Mundo on a weekend though, try a Tuaca Special.

I highly recommend Mundo to anyone looking for a place to enjoy a drink or two. It isn’t targeted towards any particular demographic, which only adds to the warm and inviting atmosphere Mundo creates.
