In need of a holiday? Some relaxation and rest?

Beach & Bay Realty has a number of local holiday properties located in Cronulla, Sutherland Shire. We also have some rentals in Mollymook which is down the South Coast. These properties are very popular and our Cronulla rentals are currently booked until Spring.

What you might not have known is that we also offer a range of apartments and villas in Italy for holiday accommodation. One of our staff members stayed in Piazza Beccaria Apartment in Florence last year and it comes highly recommended.

You can currently view 2 of these Italian holiday properties on our website but if you would like further information on others please feel free to call the office or send through an email and we can provide you with more details.

In-room VS On-site Auctions

This is in regards to’s twitter blog about in-room vs on-site auctions.

I have attended too many in-room auctions where the power point presentation showing the property going to auction stops working! It’s hard to get emotional and carried away at a blank screen.

How can in-room auctions compete with on-site auctions where bidders can gaze at the view from the property they are about to purchase? And what about when your property is scheduled as the last one on the list of 20 auctions and everyone but 1 or 2 people are left. How does the vendor delegated to the last time slot feel?!

And I disagree with Ray White Victoria’s General Manager Marcus William when he says “generally speaking vendors save money” with in-room auctions. Most agencies charge the same Auctioneer’s fee for onsite or in rooms!

I believe that in most cases an on-site auction is the best venue for a property going to auction. If on-site is not suitable I think the question should be asked – is the property an “Auction” property. Please note: I am only referring to residential real estate.

Australia & Africa – Oceans apart, united by generosity

I first heard of Gemma Rice while in Ghana last year. A Melbournian volunteer from World Vision was telling me the incredible story of how this rural Aussie woman opened a school in Tanzania. Last night Gemma was featured on ABC’s Australian Story and so I thought I would write a little something as well.

In 2002 St Jude’s was opened with only a handful of students and one teacher. Today there are almost 1200 children, 130 teachers and 200 staff. A second school was also opened in 2008 and over 90% of the children at the school receive a totally free education through international sponsorship.  Gemma’s charity began with small $5 monthly donations from friends and family and it just goes to show that international charity can start at home. St Jude’s is now helping a large number of children to “Fight poverty through education”.

Another Australian woman who is truly inspirational is Irene Gleeson. Nearly 20 years ago Irene sold her house in Australia to finance her charity work in Uganda. Irene has just been made an Officer of the Order of Australia for “service to international relations, particularly through sustained aid for children affected by war and HIV-AIDS in northern Uganda”.  Her charitable projects through Childcare Kitgum Servants are extensive and include primary schools & training centres, medical & counselling services and cultural & community projects.

The staff at Beach & Bay are always excited to hear of the wonderful work that Australian people are doing in African countries, particularly those involving children. Last year we supported building a classroom in Ghana and we also sponsor a girl in Ghana through World vision.

If you would like to know more information about the above Aussie women and their charities please see the following websites.

Pyjama Journalists

I am currently undertaking a Communications degree at university and am constantly awed by the new technology and opportunities available through online media forms.

We are living in an exciting digital age where masses of information and entertainment are available and surprisingly, often free.

Freedom of the press is more achievable as we are no longer limited by giant news corporations who can dictate what we see and hear. Blogging has created a new wave of  ‘pyjama journalists’, (freelance journalists, academics and every day folk) who discuss important and (sometimes) trivial issues.

We are no longer divided into producer and consumer categories, instead a new term ‘prosumers’ has been coined in which we are both the creators and audience of material.

This web revolution is not without faults but it has many advantages and Beach & Bay Realty look forward to embracing new forms of media as we become “Generation C”. Where C stands for the mass amount of CONTENT available. The ability to COLLABORATE, COMMUNICATE, CONNECT and form COMMUNITIES.

MS Charity Fun Run

It is now two and a half weeks until I compete in the MS 8km Charity Fun Run in Sydney. The course includes some serious hills around Milsons Point with a grand sprinting finish next to the iconic face at Luna Park.

Multiple Sclerosis is the most common disease of the central nervous system and affects over 18,000 Australians.

This is the second time I have participated in this event raising money for MS research and it’s also the second time I have wished I did a lot more training!

If you would like to sponsor me and donate to this wonderful organisation please follow the link.

Our interactive website including the Sutherland Shire’s first real estate blog has now been running for over 12 months.

Our main aim last year was to provide free and useful information on sales in our local real estate market of Cronulla, Woolooware, Caringbah, Caringbah South, Burraneer, Lilli Pilli, Dolans Bay and Port Hacking(officially no longer a suburb) and in particular the auction results in these suburbs.

The information now found in the auction results section is extensive and very informative and for buyers, sellers, agents and anyone interested in real estate in this area, our website is fast becoming the first point of reference.

We hope you all continue to use the website and this year we will be adding new features and we look forward to your input.

We are getting great feedback from local agents (yes our competitors) who are happy to provide us with information of their results because we are listing all agents auctions and in return they have free access to the data on the site.

Just to remind you we would like to encourage input from the public as well, whether you are a neighbour, vendor, auctioneer, buyer or friend and you attend an auction in Cronulla, Burraneer, Caringbah, Caringbah South, Woolooware, Lilli Pilli and Dolans Bay please ring us or email at or log on direct to the website and let us know the result. You can tell us as little or as much as you like. Mainly we are interested in knowing if it sold or passed in at auction and what price, or if you were driving past the property the day before and noticed a sold sticker we would love to have that information so we can save people the trip on auction day!

I should mention the blog as well since it was the first real estate blog in the Sutherland Shire. If you look at my blogs this time last year the headings gives a clear indication of how things have changed in only 12 months. For example, March 13th, 2008 my blog heading reads “Enough of the Rate Rises!”. The Reserve Bank didn’t read my blog obviously. Wow how things have changed. One thing I did learn from writing the blogs is that not many people comment, I was a bit disheartened at first but what I have learned since is that you are reading my blogs, and more and more of you each month so I don’t mind that you are shy!

Anyway, thank you for your participation, I hope you continue to visit us at and and
