A Photo Around Every Corner

Next time you pop in to Cronulla Central you may notice that something has changed…

The photographs of the Spring Festival have been replaced with a brand new photographic exhibition by local amateur photographer Peter Sparks. Around Every Corner is an exciting new exhibition showcasing the Sutherland Shire’s natural beauty and stunning scenery from rivers and beaches to sea and gardens.

Peter Sparks, a Sutherland Shire resident since 1959, became interested in photography as a teenager.  His interest developed into a passion as he learnt through courses, workshops, books and by studying other photographers and their approach to work.  “The aim is to communicate my vision with others, for the photo to impact the viewer and that they will feel what I felt when photographing.  Creating an emotive response in the viewer brings me as much pleasure as the photographer.  Then I have achieved my aim – the photo is successful” Peter said.

The exhibition will be in the Cronulla Central Gallery near Cronulla Library from 1 December 2012 to 28 February 2013.  The works of art are displayed in frames along the wall and on TV’s screens, it is free to visit and photographs are available for purchase.  The Gallery is open 7am to 9pm daily.

The Cronulla Central Gallery is an exhibition space for amateur and professional photographers, new media artists, community groups and commercial exhibitors.  For information about exhibiting in the gallery please contact Karyn Loughnan at Cronulla Beach CBD Management on 9527 2100 or email kloughnan@ssc.nsw.gov.au.

2012 Cronulla Easter Show

The Cronulla Easter Show kicks off in Cronulla Plaza for 2012 for 5 days of family fun from at 10am on Friday 6th April. As always there will be plenty of showbags, a farm animal petting zoo, face painting, carnival rides, fun activities and more nice and close to home without the stress or crowds out at the Sydney Royal Easter Show at Homebush! There are also some new activities this year including the Egg Activity Centre, Parasole decorating and roving entertainers handing out delicious treats!

How much? It’s FREE! The event is run by a local council group.

Events program:

  • Circus on Stilts – 11am to 2pm daily
  • Egg Activity Centre – 11am to 3pm daily
  • Animal Farm – 10am to 4pm daily
  • Hot Potato – various times on the 7th, 8th and 10th April

Showbags

You don’t have to head into Homebush for showbags, Cronulla has everything and more! Whether you’re obsessed with lollies or a keen magician, you’ll be able to find just what you’re looking for with the easy to download Cronulla Showbag Guide.

How to get here?

Parking in Cronulla is bad at the best of times (see parking map here) let alone during special events, but luckily there are alternatives. With trains terminating at Cronulla train station very frequently, this is definitely an option to consider if you are traveling from nearby suburbs. Bicycle racks are also located at Cronulla Station, along Cronulla St (near Cold Rock Ice Creamery) and on the ground floor of the Croydon St car park.
