Cronulla Mall Report: March 2015

IMG_20150317_135440Our iconic Cronulla Mall has seen many changes during the first quarter of 2015 and we bet there’s more to come!

Starting from the northern end of the Mall, Paco Organico (formerly Bass & Flinders) has moved in. Firstech Computers below Cronulla Cinema’s still sits empty waiting to be leased while further down Flirty has also closed its doors as of yesterday…

2015-03-17_14.54.56_1Clothing store Code Orange is no longer and Wholesale Outlet has moved in. Another clothing store Lemon Jelly (formerly Velvet Jayne) is also closing down with 50-80% off storewide.

Surrounded by state election signs and campaigners, the iconic former Commonwealth Bank landmark is still for lease, when will any one ever move in?!

After no luck leasing the former Greenhills Australand office, it is now going to auction on 30th April, watch this space!

Get ready for next summer (or hopefully some warmer weather later this year) with 10-50% off all summer stock at Pure Sea surf shop.

2015-03-17_14.58.51Coming to the end of the Mall, the left side of Eclectic Home & Garden still sits empty…

Do you know of any other changes happening in the Mall or around Cronulla? Let us know!

Cronulla Mall Report: Spring 2014

IMAG0684_1Welcome to Spring! So far we’ve had rain, wind and more rain, but we’re hoping for clear, sunny days next weekend for Cronulla’s annual Spring Festival! We heard The Flying Pig Collective will be here with the best pulled pork!

After bracing the cold, windy, drizzly weather today, we’re happy to announce there’s quite a few changes since our last report!

IMAG0659Walking to the Mall from the carpark, the first thing you’ll spot is the new Protein Bar in the corner, we’re yet to try it out but we’ve heard good things!

Once you’re in the Mall, you’ll notice a few updates:

  • The former Commonwealth Bank building is now a warehouse expo for a 14 day sale
  • Renovations near Code Orange
  • Kurrabar Cafe are hiring staff
  • Cronulla Pie Shop’s awning is still yet to be replaced
  • Australand’s Greenhills Beach shop is still vacant, feels like forever!
  • Body Pro Supplements store also for lease – sign says deposit has been taken, wonder what’s moving in here?!
  • Eclectic Home & Garden has split in two and word on the street is that a real estate franchise is moving in
  • The Lucky Dragon has new windows
  • Renovations near the southern newsagency (train station end)

IMAG0682Outside the Mall, Oporto has downsized to make room for new coffee shop Bianchini’s Espresso on the corner. They’re still working on the shop but hopefully it will open soon!

Next door, Balkan Restaurant is also renovating, plenty of changes to come!

Further down by the beach Simone’s on the Park still sits empty. We’d heard plans for a gym but no action has taken place. Hopefully someone will take advantage of the great location!

Leaving the Mall heading into the carpark you’ll notice the upgrades taking place in Croydon St carpark, hopefully this will ease traffic congestion!

Cronulla Mall Report: Sun, Sales & Spring Around The Corner

The Mall is filled with winter sun and winter sales making room for new spring stock in the coming weeks!

Starting from the northern end, the old Vodafone store still remains vacant as it has for some time now. I felt sorry for photo 4the lady from ANZ who had to stand out the front telling people the bank and ATM were closed due to a power failure! Meanwhile Cotton On have well and truly opened next to Cronulla Pie Shop.

The iconic Commonwealth Bank has officially relocated to the smaller premises down the Mall next to Subway and Allouche’s Café & Eatery, which is currently undergoing some renovations. Also the old CBA premises is for lease and word is it has been divided into 3…

photo 3The Embassy have moved into the former newsagency next to Toni & Guy and are advertising pies, cakes and fresh sandwiches to come soon. Not sure when the new store will be open but we will keep you updated…

At the southern end of the Mall Lodown have 20% of all winter stock and jeans while the newly established hairdresser next to South of the Border, The Place, are looking for a full-time stylist – apply within.

20130813_111709Council work continues in several prime spots in Cronulla including the crossing near Oporto and on the grass at South Cronulla Beach near the Surf Club. They better hurry up as the Spring Fair is just around the corner!

Rumour has it that the former restaurant Simone’s on the Park overlooking South Cronulla Beach will soon become either Hurricane’s Bar & Grill or a gym, only time will tell…

photo 9If you think the weather is unseasonably hot, the real estate market in Cronulla and surrounding suburbs is even hotter. Fuelled by low interest rates and a severe shortage of stock,  prices are on the up and up as multiple buyers compete for the very few properties in our highly sought after area. Beach & Bay Realty just sold 13 Seaforth Ave, Woolooware (due to go to auction on 31st August) in just 5 days and 1 open house.

Anyone thinking of selling call us now and enjoy the benefits of this perfect seller’s market.

Tuesday is Toddler Day in Cronulla!

As I take a walk through Cronulla on a typical day it is no surprise to see children and their carers enjoying the open space and relaxing atmosphere. It is a place to make new friends or meet up with old ones while enjoying the outdoor shopping and seaside lifestyle. Toddler Tuesdays, a new initiative of Cronulla Beach CBD, aims to bring together a community of young Mums, Dads and Carers.

Each week the large Pavilion Stage area of Cronulla Mall will be transformed for Toddler Tuesday.  Children will have plenty of play equipment to enjoy with new pieces added each week. The fenced play area gives toddlers plenty of room to explore whilst still enclosed in one safe spot. While supervising their toddlers, parents and carers can relax in the adjoining seating area and enjoy time to chat.

Toddler Tuesdays are suitable for children aged up to 6 years. The facilities are fully undercover and operate from 9.30am to 1.00pm. The first Toddler Tuesday will be 5 February 2013 followed by every Tuesday during school terms until mid November. Sessions are on a drop in basis so no bookings are required and they’re FREE!

For dates visit Cronulla Beach CBD’s website or keep up to date with us on Facebook.

Santa to visit Cronulla

Great news that Santa Claus will once again find time in his busy schedule to visit Cronulla, but there’ll be no snow in sight as he warms his toes by the beach from the 24th of November through to the 24th of December.

For those of you who haven’t seen Santa’s awesome beach pad, it boasts a unique seaside backdrop and beach theme but I’m sure the kids will be more interested in the free gift they will all receive.

We are also encouraging everyone to bring their pets to meet Santa for a twist on the traditional Christmas photo. Every man and his dog is welcome….really!  If a pooch, pussycat or parrot is part of your family, bring them along to have a photo with Santa for a long lasting memory. Don’t forget to bring the kids too!

I can also confirm that Santa will be arriving by beach buggy with a little help from the Cronulla Lifeguards on Saturday the 24th of November at 10am with photos available from 10am to 5pm daily. Getting closer to Christmas I have got Santa working overtime, from the 8th of December photos will be from 9am to 5pm daily until his last wave out on Christmas Eve.

Cronulla Beach CBD has a special treat for all children who visit the website.  A free Christmas colouring book is now online and lots of fun.  Children can even dress up Santa!  Simply visit Cronulla Beach CBD’s website.

Mall Report: Cronulla is changing

It’s been a while between reports, what can I say I’ve been waiting for the 2 wine bars to open, yes that’s right not just Johnny of Bacchus fame has opened up a wine bar but also Carlita’s will soon have a new owner and name and we hear it’s all about wine.

So on this gorgeous Cronulla day I started at the north end of the Mall at Croydon Lane Wine & Tapas Bar which opened to the public on the weekend, the small wine bar movement has arrived in Cronulla… Hopefully Johnny will still let me in after I tried to gate crash the family/friend opening, oops.

The Japanese restaurant, Kanakawa which was next door to the wine bar has moved a little south into the Mall and its former premises is for lease. Popular Bass & Flinders Cafe is next door and has a muffin and coffee deal for $6.

I then headed to Simply Delicious and met Toby the owner of Cronulla’s latest cake shop, the special occasion cakes and cupcakes rival any of the Planet Cake creations, a welcome addition to the Cronulla food scene.

A quick stop at Apache Rose to check out their latest gift and homewares collection and then back into the Mall. Sadly it seems Holy Fire is gone? Does anyone know what happened?

Heading south the Mall is buzzing with activity on such a stunning day.

The artisan bakery next to Cronulla Arts Theatre must be close to opening but Ocean 7, the Harvey World Travel and Ray White’s shops sit empty.

A bit further south the Douglas Hanly Moir pathology office has opened, convenient but boring I move on to the Chocpad, Cronulla’s latest offering for the sweet tooths.

As usual the Best Little Bookshop in Town has a great quote for the day, Monro Park is full of picnickers, latte drinkers and toddlers and the gardens are immaculate as always.

Starting with a wine bar I end with a future wine bar, Carlita’s has been sold and we hear the new owner is opening a wine bar… Cronulla is changing.

Cronulla Spring Fair 2012

My plan is to vote as soon as the polling booths open this weekend then head to the Mall for Spring Fair, then the Marine & Boat Show and then off to my open homes before the crowds arrive. This weekend Cronulla is on show and if this weather continues it will be the perfect weekend for Cronulla to shine.

Some of the events for the weekend include:

  • Over 100 stalls selling unique gifts, swimwear, fashion and homewares
  • Kids favourites including face painting, an animal farm & popular rides
  • Wellbeing Fair @ Monro Park, with local musicians providing background music
  • Cronulla Plaza Pavilion Stage entertainment, starting from 10am on Sat & Sun

And of course all of the shops, restaurants and cafe’s in the Mall and surrounds will be open business as usual.

The Sutherland Shire Marine & Boat Show is being held for the first time this weekend at Dunningham Park so don’t forget to check it out, jet skis, boats and boating accessories will be on show.

And don’t forget to vote!

Cronulla Mall Report: Where do I start!

So much has happened in Cronulla lately! From reality TV shows to 2 IGA‘s opening in 1 month, Cronulla has been a hive of activity.

Starting at the northern end, suddenly a week ago Franklins was gone and the IGA signs went up. We first heard that this was a head office shop for IGA but have since found out this is not correct. On the 17th April IGA at the southern end of the Mall will open, one that we have been reporting on for a few months. What are quickly becoming known as the North IGA and the South IGA will be very different stores in products and services on offer…More on that on 17th April or just before.

Store closures at the north end of town include LA Trend Fashion that was originally in the much larger location where Mrs. Watson’s Organic Foods and Discount Vitamins is. Sad to see another retail disappear in the Mall. Sitting empty right next to it is Fifi’s Chicken Shop which has been vacant for a long time now.

Basking in this glorious autumn sunshine I head south past Crust Pizza‘s ‘Dare You, Dare Us’ offer, so going to participate in that and across the road to check out Mad Mex. It’s a bit early for lunch but I love the fit out of this restaurant. Have to admit I haven’t had time to try it but have heard great reports.

Around the corner into Surf Rd the Cronulla Arts Theatre renovation is in full progress. We have heard the old Grind cafe venue will be the new lobby.

Across the road Charbella has completed its move from a street away and is now set up beautifully in the shop next door to the Old Library Restaurant.

Back to the Mall and south, Beluga, Crazy Horse sit empty and neglected and the Something Else pop up store will close Easter Monday.

Sadly we noticed last week Cook’s Table had closed (Gerrale St around from Surf Rd) and with it the pasta plus glass of wine $20 mid-week deal. We wish the owners well.

Happy Easter and let’s hope this weather continues for the whole weekend.

Autumn is my favourite time of year in Cronulla, here are some photo’s I’ve taken the last 2 weeks.

2012 Cronulla Easter Show

The Cronulla Easter Show kicks off in Cronulla Plaza for 2012 for 5 days of family fun from at 10am on Friday 6th April. As always there will be plenty of showbags, a farm animal petting zoo, face painting, carnival rides, fun activities and more nice and close to home without the stress or crowds out at the Sydney Royal Easter Show at Homebush! There are also some new activities this year including the Egg Activity Centre, Parasole decorating and roving entertainers handing out delicious treats!

How much? It’s FREE! The event is run by a local council group.

Events program:

  • Circus on Stilts – 11am to 2pm daily
  • Egg Activity Centre – 11am to 3pm daily
  • Animal Farm – 10am to 4pm daily
  • Hot Potato – various times on the 7th, 8th and 10th April

You don’t have to head into Homebush for showbags, Cronulla has everything and more! Whether you’re obsessed with lollies or a keen magician, you’ll be able to find just what you’re looking for with the easy to download Cronulla Showbag Guide.

How to get here?

Parking in Cronulla is bad at the best of times (see parking map here) let alone during special events, but luckily there are alternatives. With trains terminating at Cronulla train station very frequently, this is definitely an option to consider if you are traveling from nearby suburbs. Bicycle racks are also located at Cronulla Station, along Cronulla St (near Cold Rock Ice Creamery) and on the ground floor of the Croydon St car park.

To kick-start your Cronulla Easter Show experience, clink on the link here to download a colouring-in sheet great for kids!
