Cronulla Mall Report: Sales, sales, sales!

Finally we’re seeing some winter sun!

The Mall is full of mid-year sales! Prices have been marked down throughout the Mall at Butiga, Freelance Shoes, Stevie & Me, Sentier, Dreamshack and almost everywhere in between!

The old Vodafone shop next to the ANZ Bank remains unoccupied with many For Lease signs in the window with the former Payless Shoes store a few doors down also still vacant.

Speaking of shoes, the Shoe Superstore has re-opened under new management in its original position in the Mall with up to 50% off in store.

Berkelouw Books are looking for a new staff member, check out their window for more details.

With a bright new fresh shop front, Cronulla welcomes Fingertipz to the Mall, occupying L.A Trend’s former position. Opposite the new nail salon Cronulla’s iconic Post Office is undergoing some maintenance with a new coat of paint.

Next to Subway the old Gloria Jeans store is now a construction zone, making way for the new Commonwealth Bank premises.

In Surf Rd Groundbake is doing a great trade. Next door sits Cronulla’ empty Little Shoe Shop, which will soon be transformed into a new hairdressing salon. New restaurant Hunt & Gather is also becoming very popular!

Vinnies are enjoying their new position between IGA and Cronulla Fruitland, however the Fruitland is still closed.

Cronulla welcomes new hair salon The Place which has opened up next to South of the Border overlooking Monro Park, currently greener and brighter than ever thanks to all the rain we’ve had lately!

Interested in owning a business in the Mall? Dreamshack is currently For Sale.

As always there are some great school holiday activities on offer from Cronulla CBD to keep the kids occupied – Mini Putt Golf at the Pavilion (1 – 5 July) and the Cronulla Clue Challenge (8– 12 July).

Mall Report: Cronulla is changing

It’s been a while between reports, what can I say I’ve been waiting for the 2 wine bars to open, yes that’s right not just Johnny of Bacchus fame has opened up a wine bar but also Carlita’s will soon have a new owner and name and we hear it’s all about wine.

So on this gorgeous Cronulla day I started at the north end of the Mall at Croydon Lane Wine & Tapas Bar which opened to the public on the weekend, the small wine bar movement has arrived in Cronulla… Hopefully Johnny will still let me in after I tried to gate crash the family/friend opening, oops.

The Japanese restaurant, Kanakawa which was next door to the wine bar has moved a little south into the Mall and its former premises is for lease. Popular Bass & Flinders Cafe is next door and has a muffin and coffee deal for $6.

I then headed to Simply Delicious and met Toby the owner of Cronulla’s latest cake shop, the special occasion cakes and cupcakes rival any of the Planet Cake creations, a welcome addition to the Cronulla food scene.

A quick stop at Apache Rose to check out their latest gift and homewares collection and then back into the Mall. Sadly it seems Holy Fire is gone? Does anyone know what happened?

Heading south the Mall is buzzing with activity on such a stunning day.

The artisan bakery next to Cronulla Arts Theatre must be close to opening but Ocean 7, the Harvey World Travel and Ray White’s shops sit empty.

A bit further south the Douglas Hanly Moir pathology office has opened, convenient but boring I move on to the Chocpad, Cronulla’s latest offering for the sweet tooths.

As usual the Best Little Bookshop in Town has a great quote for the day, Monro Park is full of picnickers, latte drinkers and toddlers and the gardens are immaculate as always.

Starting with a wine bar I end with a future wine bar, Carlita’s has been sold and we hear the new owner is opening a wine bar… Cronulla is changing.

Cronulla Spring Fair 2012

My plan is to vote as soon as the polling booths open this weekend then head to the Mall for Spring Fair, then the Marine & Boat Show and then off to my open homes before the crowds arrive. This weekend Cronulla is on show and if this weather continues it will be the perfect weekend for Cronulla to shine.

Some of the events for the weekend include:

  • Over 100 stalls selling unique gifts, swimwear, fashion and homewares
  • Kids favourites including face painting, an animal farm & popular rides
  • Wellbeing Fair @ Monro Park, with local musicians providing background music
  • Cronulla Plaza Pavilion Stage entertainment, starting from 10am on Sat & Sun

And of course all of the shops, restaurants and cafe’s in the Mall and surrounds will be open business as usual.

The Sutherland Shire Marine & Boat Show is being held for the first time this weekend at Dunningham Park so don’t forget to check it out, jet skis, boats and boating accessories will be on show.

And don’t forget to vote!

Spotlight on local business: A Touch of Eden

We love interviewing local businesses, especially when we get to experience great coffee! Recently we spoke to Thomas from A Touch Of Eden opposite Monro Park…

A Touch of Eden is not just a café is it? How did you come to have a café and vintage fashion and accessories together?
My mum and I began the shop together and she has had her business selling vintage and shabby/sheek for around 17 years. It progressed from there. She has a great eye for that kind of thing!

Great choice to use White Horse coffee beans, how did this come about?
I was a Barista at White Horse for a while and stayed in contact with the guys. Really excited about how their roasting is progressing. Glad to be the first one to use their coffee on a daily basis.

You open super early! How many coffees do you have to get you through your long day?
I’d answer but I think my mum and fiancé might read this. Then I would be in serious trouble!

What is the most popular coffee ordered?
Cappuccino 2 sugars. By a mile!!

Who do you draw your inspiration from?
Dom from White Horse. I have a lot of respect for how he makes coffee and really makes me always look to get the best out of the coffee to make customers happy.

Can you shop online for your products?
At the moment we are just running out from the shop front. Future will be bright here I imagine however.

Do you have a social media profile? Are you on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc? Do you have a website?

Following the famous quote “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”, why do you love what you do so much?
I get to drink some great coffee and meet very interesting people.

Why did you choose Cronulla?
There are other choices?

Finish this sentence: I Love Cronulla because….

2012 Mother’s Day Mall Report

You’d have to be hiding under a rock not to know that it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday. There are no excuses this year, buy your mum a present! In Cronulla you are spoilt for choices. I Love Cronulla likes to support local so if you are an uninspired individual (probably male!) here’s some options to make you the most popular!

  • Dreamshack, an iconic Cronulla view on canvas
  • A winter scarf from Blue Illusion
  • Winter PJ’s from Velvet Jane
  • South of the Border dress or South American shawl
  • Eclectic gift voucher so she can choose her own
  • Hazards swimwear for that northern hemisphere summer holiday
  • Brunch at Cronulla’s many restaurants and cafes including Sealevel, Alley Break, Zimzala, Simone’s On The Park, Papa’s, The Old Library, Summersalt, Matthew Flinders and La Cucina
  • Surf lessons for the ultra cool mum at Cronulla Surf School
  • A bunch of autumn flowers from Harper’s Florist
  • Or pampering at the many hairdressers or day spas in Cronulla

Shop openings and closures

In the last 24 hours, 2 shops have opened

  • Days Like These
  • A Touch of Eden

Days Like These sells mens and womens clothing and has opened up in the previously CharBella shop in between Bang On and HAM Cafe. A Touch of Eden which is a combination of vintage and coffee shop has opened today next door to South of The Border and opposite Monro Park.

Cronulla’s latest restaurant, The Balkan on Gerrale St (next to Vinnies), is open Tuesday to Sunday for dinner and also Saturday & Sunday for lunch. It seems that the Code Orange store that has been vacant for ages next door to Noodle Inn will soon be the new location for Flex Nutrition.

Two businesses that have closed in the last few weeks include EAT restaurant next to La Cucina (opposite Cronulla Park) and Ocean 7 in the Mall.

PS: If you won the Lotto this week ring us because we have some stunning properties that we are marketing at the moment – make it a Mother’s Day that your mum will never ever forget and buy her a new home!

2012 Anzac Day Local Services

Anzac Day Miranda 2011

Anzac Day is rightfully known as one of Australia’s most important national occasions marking the anniversary of the first major military action found by Australian and New Zealand forces during the first World War.

Today we recognise the 25th of April as a day of national remembrance through two forms:

  • Commemorative services are held at dawn across the nation to represent the time of the original landing. Later in the day, ex-servicemen and women meet to take part in marches through the major cities and in many smaller centres
  • Commemorative ceremonies are more formal occasions held at war memorials around the country for Australians to reflect on the many different meanings of war

Luckily we have a number of local services to attend in the Sutherland Shire:

Monro Park, Cronulla

4:20am – March of ex and current service personnel, departing from the corner of The Kingsway and Denman Ave
4:30am – Dawn Service at Memorial Park, corner of The Kingsway and Port Hacking Rd South

5:15am – March from Sutherland Uniting Services Club
5:30am – Dawn Service at Peace Park, Eton St

5:15am – March departs from Cronulla RSL Memorial Club, Gerrale St
5:30am – Dawn Service at  Monro Park, corner of Cronulla St and Laycock Ave

5:30am – March departs from Miranda RSL Memorial Club, The Kingsway
5:40am – Dawn Service, Miranda Cenotaph in Seymour Shaw Park, northern end of Central Rd

6am – Service at the Bundeena RSL

5:30am – Service at the Engadine RSL

5:30am – Service at the Heathcote Services and Citizen’s Club

6am – Service at the Woronora River RSL

Please consider attending a local service. Lest We Forget.
