Local Teneile Pawley needs YOU

On Father’s Day last year 17 year old Teneile was suddenly and inexplicably robbed of any chance of a normal life. After enjoying a quiet family dinner the night before this innocent young lady awoke feverish and obviously unwell.

She was rushed by ambulance to Prince Charles Hospital where she suffered 2 cardiac arrests. After fighting death for months and winning, the devastating news came through that Teneile had suffered moderate brain damage.

Teneile is now in ‘Jacana’; an acquired brain injury rehab facility where she is ‘locked in’. This means she understands and feels EVERYTHING but can only communicate by moaning and very limited movement of her limbs. Very recently, after intense daily occupational and speech therapy, to everyone’s delight, she managed to say ‘mum’.

The brain damage is causing bones to grow randomly, with no indication of when this will stop. A new bone has grown across Teneile’s back locking her spine and hips. This causes unbearable/agonizing pain 24/7.

Our long term goal, with your support is to accumulate enough funds to enable Teneile to have an operation to reduce the devastating effects of this bone growth when her heart is strong enough.

In the short term Teneile is waiting on the availability of a modified wheelchair that can accommodate her rigid frame/body. As she is in a Public Hospital/Facility the waiting list is heartbreakingly long.

We’re committing ourselves, with your help to provide Teneile with this chair through the private sector.

Steven Is Running To Support Teneile

Steven Vials is competing in 'Racing The Planet Australia' and dedicating his run to Teneile Pawley and her family. Not content with a challenging 42km marathon, Steven has decided to run 250km. Still not tough enough, the race is held in the Kimberley Region of Australia where temperatures during the run will range between 35-40°C.

Steven will "navigate" through numerous checkpoints to the finish line of the daily stage (there are 6 stages in total) as quickly as he can. Steven must carry all his own food, gear and clothing, and will only be provided with a ration of water. No outside assistance is permitted. The longest stage will be around 90km, more than double that of a marathon!

You can learn more about the event at Racing The Planet and this site can also be used in the race to track Steven's progress.

Please consider sponsoring Steven's race through this website. All money raised will be going directly to Teneile's family to help cover medical costs and assist in the purchasing of a specialised wheelchair.
